As this article here in the Independent the number of LPAs being done is rising.
While having an LPA is desirable provided you trust the person doing it when it goes wrong it really does get ugly.
Currently my firm is getting a number of enquiries with the scenario where Relative X by fair or foul means has managed to become Attorney and then abused the position and spent significant monies including on some occasions the proceeds of the family home.
Sometimes relatives do not want to take legal action due to embarrassment or fear of getting the police involved but there are legal remedies if one wants to go down that route and get justice.
