It has been recently reported that figures from NHS Digital revealed an increase in investigations of maltreatment of elderly people across the country. Councils carried out 143,390 Section 42 notices in 2018-19 which was an increase of 8.7% on the previous year.
It is worth considering the following:
1 Like any form of abuse, the problem is understated.
2 With a rise in the elderly population attitudes towards the elderly have improved but there is more to be done.
3 If you have a loved one who is subject to a Section 42 notice this is a difficult time for you. The key piece of legal advice is to balance your assertiveness against being too aggressive.
