“Non-cooperation is a measure of discipline and sacrifice, and it demands respect for the opposite views.” Mohandas K Ghandi |
Research into the real cost to business of litigation has confirmed that one of the severest consequences of disputes is the effect on management time, with 87% of businesses affected.
According to the mediation group, CEDR the estimated cost of conflict to UK business exceeds £30bn a year, with damage to company reputation, exposure in the public domain, loss of customers, increases in staff turnover and missed opportunities resulting from the diversion of management time all cited as negative consequences.
This led to the Chairman of CEDR, Sir Peter Middleton observing “So the question is – how much money, not to mention business goodwill, is being lost by lack of practical know-how in accessing skilful independent intervention? It goes without saying that every business in a dispute today must ask itself – “can I afford not to mediate?”
Mediation can be used in a variety of circumstances: civil and commercial disputes, family disputes, workplace disputes, neighbourhood disputes, intellectual property, international business relationships and property negotiations.
