The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has conducted a study which found that intentions of employers regarding redundancy had peaked since the study began in 2004.
In every ten organisations, four were planning redundancies during the first quarter of the year, the survey revealed.
These numbers included a third of NHS employers, 50 per cent of central government staff and three-quarters of those working within local government departments.
This is all old hat to those who watch the level of redundancies in the public sector.
The key question which many lawyers and Trade Union officials ask will be the level of consulation done by the employer with the employees.
If you do legal and effective consultation, the employer is well on the way to having a legally successful redundancy.
If the employer hashes it up, then you upset the employee even more and you can start thinking about facing Tribunal proceedings.
it really is that simple.
