How to Select and Appoint a Mediator
“[O]ne person’s decision to respond rather than react to that situation...can set the stage for dialogue and openness.” The Tao of Negotiation |
It is important that the individual you choose to act as a mediator in your case has relevant experience. They should be a fully trained mediator with either the Academy of Experts or the CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution). It helps if the mediator has a good working knowledge of the law and is capable of handling detailed information and complex situations.
A mediator should have good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to give you examples of mediation cases that they have worked on and agreements they have helped the parties to reach.
Here are some questions you might ask your mediator:
- What mediation training have you done?
- How many mediations have you been involved in?
- How do you charge?
- Is mediation right for my case?
- Why should I choose you?
Many of our clients are in London and the South East but Human Law Mediation provides mediators for cases throughout the UK.
